Hundreds of thousands of commuters have been affected as trains run by Southern rail came to a halt on Tuesday morning.
Transport secretary, Chris Grayling told BBC News that the drivers’ strike was “palpable nonsense” and that “militant” unions were trying to bring the rail network to its knees.
